God’s Not Gentrified
God’s Not Gentrified: A Better Story for Wedgewood-Houston
The Neighborhood’s Changing.
Wedgewood-Houston has always had soul. The kind of place where welders, painters, musicians, and neighbors shared space and stories.
Now, new construction rises where old buildings once stood. Rents go up. Coffee shops and art galleries fill old warehouses.
Some of that change is exciting. Some of it’s painful.
And in the middle of all of it, we’re asking one question:
What story is the Church telling here?
Why We are Still Here
We didn’t start Hillcrest Community Church because the neighborhood was popular. We planted here because we believe Jesus is present in this place—and He’s still changing lives.
We’re not trying to be trendy.
We’re trying to be faithful.
Our city doesn’t need another performance.
It needs a people rooted in something deeper.
What the Gospel Does
Here’s what we believe:
Gentrification pushes people out.
The gospel pulls people in.
Jesus never avoided the hard parts of town. He walked straight into them—bringing hope, healing, and grace. That’s what we want to do too.
The Church shouldn’t be exclusive or intimidating. It should feel like a table with room for everyone.
Maybe You’re Here on Purpose
Maybe you just moved to Nashville.
Maybe you’ve been here your whole life and barely recognize it anymore.
Either way, we believe God’s hand is in it.
You’re not here by accident.
And we don’t think it’s a coincidence you’re reading this.
You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be polished.
You just have to be open.
What Kind of Church Is Hillcrest?
We’re not here for the spotlight.
We’re here to show up.
For our neighbors. For our city. For each other.
We believe small acts of love matter. That presence is more powerful than polish.
We’re not just a Sunday church.
We’re an everyday people.
There’s a Better Story Being Written
In a neighborhood full of change, we’re holding on to the truth that God doesn’t change.
He’s not adapting to the market.
He’s not watching from a distance.
He’s moving, restoring, redeeming—and He’s not done.
There’s a better story unfolding in Wedgewood-Houston. And we believe you’re part of it.
